A prestigious residential development within central London had to incorporate an electrical substation into the building due to lack of available space elsewhere.
In order to ensure negligible risk to residents, and to maximise the perceived value of the development, EMC Consultants were commissioned to carry out a design study to determine worst case EMF levels within residential areas.
Results were compared to UK / European acceptable limits for people and were also compared to health studies linking leukaemia in children to EMF exposure. An electromagnetic screening specification was then developed for the substation and quotations for supply / installation were obtained from specialist screening contractors.
EMC Consultants provided QA inspections during the period of the screening / shielding installation. Once the the building was occupied and the substation was delivering normal load, EMF measurements were carried out within residences surrounding the substation to confirm that ambient EMF levels were satisfactorily low.
Upon completion of the survey / study works, formal test and acceptance documentation was issued to the developer.
