Telecommunications environmental impact assessment (EIA) for a major redevelopment in Southampton.
The project comprises many new multi-storey buildings in the vicinity of extensive two storey housing estates. The purpose of the assessment being to quantify the risk of interference to television and radio reception in the Southampton area in general and local housing in particular.
The study considered the location of the main television and radio transmitters serving the area and, by the principle of ray tracing determined the locations/extent of electromagnetic shadow and reflection zones. Where TV or radio reception was likely to be affected by the presence of the development, all possible options for reinstatement of reception were provided.
